I am having my teaching experience of spoken English last 7 years. I can make students to speak English within 2 months if they have little ideas about basic knowledge of English. I have very simple method of teaching English Grammar tenses and other things also. I mostly in practicing language and conversation, English for International Communication Four Things to Remember before you Begin 1. D- Determination: Remember that you need to have a strong desire, a passion and a resolution in your mind about learning English and you need to feel the urgency of learning it. Your strong determination to learn English works as a driving force which helps you go forward in the process of learning. 2. R-Resources: An English learner without books is just like an army without weapons. Make sure that you English to English Dictionary with pronunciation, a good grammar book, and of course some good quality audio CDs and DVDs. 3. H- Hard work: Remember that hard work is the key to success. The harder you work the faster you can improve your English. 4. T-Time: Learning is a process learning English certainly takes some time. So, don’t get discouraged if you are not able to learn within few days. Keep on learning. Four Skills to Develop 1. Listening: It is one of the best ways of learning and improving English listen carefully how people speak. Try to learn pronunciation and usages by listening to them. 2. Writing: To improve writing skill, you have to learn as many structures as you can. Structures are the patterns of sentence formation. 3. Reading: Reading definitely helps you to improve your English. Make a habit of taking notes of some important words, which you may not know the meaning of and also some important sentence patterns which you come across your reading. 4. Speaking: This is the most neglected skill in the process of learning language. Practice and speak whatever you have learned so far. Do not hesitate and worry about mistake since no one can speak without mistake. Some Important Concepts 1. Fluency verses Accuracy: Always try to maintain balance between accuracy and fluency. Even if you speak very fast but with a lot of mistakes people may not like your English. Similarly, even if you speak with accuracy but if you are very slow, that mars the standard of your English. So, learn to be fluent yet maintaining accuracy. 2. Intelligibility: Intelligibility is the aim any communication. That means meaning is more important than grammar. If the audience understands the message, some small mistakes do not make any problem. So, do not worry about petty mistakes in your speech if the meaning is conveyed. Yet, remember that intelligibility or meaning should no suffer. The basic Components of English language 1. Word power: Word power is your actual strength in speaking English. Try to learn as many words as you can. Make a habit of learning new words every day. 2. Pronunciation: As you learn new words, make sure that you pronounce them correctly. 3. Structure: Grammar is important. Ignoring grammar we cannot learn English. But learning a lot of rules of grammar may not help you so much. Yet, one needs to know structures (Sentence Patterns) to speak and write English fluently. Methods of learning English 1. Grammar- Translation method: This is one of the traditional methods of learning and teaching English. This method gives much emphasis on learning the rules if grammar and English is taught by using local language. This method today is found to be less effective comparing to direct structure method. Yet, this method is effective for beginners. 2. Direct- structural method: This method uses only English for learning and teaching English. It does not ignore grammar yet gives more importance to structures, functional grammar and practice than learning rules of grammar. This is supposed to be the best method of learning English.
