A ton is the cooling capacity of an air conditioning system. One ton is equal to the amount of heat required (288,000 Btu) to melt one ton of ice in a 24-hour period. A one-ton air conditioner is rated at 12,000 Btu per hour (288,000/24). A two-ton unit would be rated at 24,000 Btu per hour.

If the question given can be solved directly by variable separable then use that if not the try to reduce it to variable separable. if this also doesn't work then check whether the given question is homogeneous or not. If it is homogeneous then use prescribed method and if the case is not so then think about the linearity of the equation and solve it. All the 1st order eqn can be solved by the one of the above methods. It depends upon your practice.
