Microsoft doesn’t use the Linux kernel for Windows because:

1. **Compatibility:** Switching to the Linux kernel would break compatibility with existing Windows applications and drivers, disrupting millions of users and businesses.

2. **Ecosystem Control:** Microsoft maintains full control over the Windows NT kernel, allowing them to tailor the OS specifically for their needs, including unique features and security mechanisms.

3. **Business Model:** Windows’ proprietary nature supports Microsoft’s business model, including monetization through licensing, enterprise solutions, and integration with Microsoft services.

4. **Innovation and Legacy:** The NT kernel is deeply embedded in Microsoft's products and services, making a transition both costly and technically complex.

Instead, Microsoft integrates Linux elements into Windows through the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), allowing users to run Linux alongside the Windows kernel without overhauling the core OS.
