The smell of hot sizzling food reaches you several meters away, but to get the smell from cold food you have to go close because the molecules of hot food have more kinetic energy and move faster, allowing them to spread out and travel through the air more quickly. Cold food has slower-moving molecules, so its aroma disperses more slowly.

(a) A gas fills completely the vessel in which it is kept because gas particles are in constant motion and spread out to occupy all available space evenly. Unlike liquids and solids, gas particles have high kinetic energy and are not held together by strong forces, allowing them to move freely and rapidly. As a result, gas particles quickly disperse to fill the entire volume of the container they are in, regardless of its size or shape.
(b) A gas exerts pressure on the walls of the container because gas particles are in constant motion and collide with the walls of the container. When gas particles collide with the walls, they exert a force perpendicular to the surface, resulting in pressure. The pressure exerted by a gas is caused by the cumulative effect of countless collisions of gas particles with the walls of the container over time. This pressure is evenly distributed throughout the container, exerting force in all directions.

Water droplets collect on the outer surface of a glass container containing ice due to condensation. When warm, humid air comes into contact with the cold surface of the glass containing ice, the air cools down, causing water vapor in the air to condense into liquid water droplets on the glass surface.

Solids have a fixed shape because their particles are held closely together by strong intermolecular forces, restricting their movement to vibrational motion around fixed positions. Liquids and gases, on the other hand, do not have fixed shapes because their particles are free to move past each other and take the shape of their container due to weaker intermolecular forces.
