The covalent bond is the bond formed due to sharing the one-electron each from the two entities involved. Carbon has valency 4, it can accept four or donate 4 electrons to get stability according to the octet rule, but these two possibilities are not so familiar as for energy factory, i.e., energetically not suitable. So carbon primarily forms covalent bonds to get stability.
