The practices I do as part of meditation are Angamardana Surya Shakti Surya Kriya Yogasanas Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya Shakti Chalana Kriya Shoonya Dharana The aforementioned practices fall either under Hatha yoga or Kriya yoga designed by Sadhguru. How is Hatha Yoga a Meditation practice? If we want to do Kriya Yoga, we always prepare people with Hatha yoga because without the body being prepared, it will not be able to take higher dimensions of energy. It will break. It is just like if your pipe is not ready and you pump in too much force, something is bound to burst. Hatha yoga, so to speak, could be understood as preparation of the pipe. Experience of doing these regularly could be many, and it differs every day depending upon my involvement and intensity I put into that particular meditation. A lot of my beliefs got shattered after I started practicing meditation. Some of the unexpected things and benefits I got through these practices are: BELIEF: I CAN EAT MY FOOD WHEREVER AND HOWEVER I WANT UNEXPECTED LESSON: I learned the importance of food. I learned that the way I receive my food and consume it brings about a tremendous change. It clearly affects my hatha yoga practices depending on how much I eat. But it also affects my involvement during the meditation. BELIEF: EATING A FULL MEAL MAKES YOU ENERGETIC UNEXPECTED LESSON: I learned the difference between being in a state of hunger and in a state of an empty stomach, and how beneficial it is to be on an empty stomach, especially it brings alertness during my activity and helps me focus much better than when I am in full stomach. BELIEF: AFTER MEDITATION YOU FEEL SO RELAXED YOU DON’T FEEL LIKE DOING ANYTHING UNEXPECTED LESSON: I learned the difference between feeling relaxed and feeling lazy. The relaxation I experienced post-meditation comes with a huge amount of alertness and flexibility. Flexibility not just physically but also in the work. I observed that I don’t have a strong sense of averseness towards any particular activity. It feels like I can do anything and it happens with an absolute sense of ease too. BELIEF: WATCH MY BREATH? HOW DOES WATCHING MY BREATH HELP UNEXPECTED LESSON: I learned the importance of breath watching. Watching my breath for even five minutes makes me feel so calm and relaxed. It helps me see how negative emotions like anger or jealousy come to be. I noticed that I handle my emotions well if I am simply observing my breath. BELIEF: ALWAYS KEEP YOURSELF OCCUPIED UNEXPECTED LESSON: “I realized this very early – unless you sit alone, you know nothing. In company, you can hide so many things. When you sit alone, you have to stand the test of your own intelligence, which is severe. You cannot get away from that. It is better you are put under the severest possible knife at the earliest possible time in your life. Otherwise, you will grow up into an old fool.
