IdentityCurrently an English teacher/IELTS trainer in Tokyo, Japan - immersed in the culture that holds on to tradition while slowly ushering in changes that are, while being modern, refreshingly quirky for a foreigner(courteously addressed as a ‘gaijin’). This small, headstrong, hardworking nation has won my heart over. Formerly an Engineer of Computer Science with extensive experience working with Hewlett Packard Enterprise, VMWARE and INTUIT, to pick the big names from my profile.
I am in Kochi for a few months before I fly back.
I strongly believe in the idea that you should love what you do and that success will follow - one of the 7-year-olds I teach would disagree, calling me naive and idealistic, and she would not be wrong, well, entirely.
Although I love what I do, naivety has never been part of my repertoire. Despite the pitiful remuneration teachers worldwide receive, I still look on the bright side that I will be lecturing at a University and venturing into my own business in Education one day. This admittedly will not make me rich, but, as the saying goes - a healthy mind, body, and soul (terribly paraphrased here, obviously). One day as an older man of wisdom, I will reflect on the skills I have acquired over a lifetime and pass them on to kin and humanity (excuse the hubris, please). And that defines success for me, regardless of what the bottom line of my bank statement will be at that point.
During my love affair with Japan, I have also become a reasonably skilled photographer, a resilient grappler, a terrible surfer and a snowboarder.
