Hi Nicolas, you should at least practice for an hour or a two excluding warm-up. And moreover you have to dedicate your these hours truly and wisely to the music with your complete physical and mental presence. Thank you.

Pls listen to good music of old maestros too & also attend live concerts. It's also a kind of mental practice & you vl get lot of inspiration, ideas without your knowledge. Hi Nicolas, To be really productive and become a good performer, you need 2 hours of DEDICATED practice a day. This should be followed regularly everyday. If you follow this, in 4 to 5 years you can become a Pro. Well... that was strictly speaking. But, if you are just learning as a hobby, minimum of half an hour a day is necessary. If you continue this way regularly everyday, in 6 months you will become a decent average player. Other than this, professional performers and players practice 6 hours a day on an average. But am not really sure whether heavy practice like this can be productive. In my learning and teaching experience, 2 hours a day is good. read less

It is not about quantity. It is about Quality of practice. If you have a proper focused practice for even 30 minutes it is much better than 2 hours of fooling on your instrument.

There is no hard and fast rule; however, some intensive programs requires minimum of 4-hour practice per day. I think considering busy life-style, 30 minutes per day 5 days weeks would be ideal for average program. Again, the more time you spend practicing, the faster you progress.
