If you follow this, in 4 to 5 years you can become a Pro. Well... that was strictly speaking. But, if you are just learning as a hobby, minimum of half an hour a day is necessary. If you continue this way regularly everyday, in 6 months you will become a decent average player. Other than this, professional performers and players practice 6 hours a day on an average. But am not really sure whether heavy practice like this can be productive. In my learning and teaching experience, 2 hours a day is good. read less

Hi nicholas, As we all know 'Practice makes man perfect'. At least 1 hr of regular practice is needed to reproduce what your teacher has taught. So that you will also get a good hold on the instrument. The quality of your music keeps on improving as you involve with music practice. It depends on your passion. Pls listen to good music of old maestros too & also attend live concerts. It's also a kind of mental practice & you vl get lot of inspiration, ideas without your knowledge. We Proffesaionals, will be keep on practicing & teaching, listening to good music whole day. read less

It is not about quantity. It is about Quality of practice. If you have a proper focused practice for even 30 minutes it is much better than 2 hours of fooling on your instrument.

Well, to be a versatile musician, you need to try a hand at all forms. But then play what makes you comfortable. Like if you see slash, he's a rock guitarist but then he's played blues with bb king as well. I hope this helps
