Hi Nicolas, To be really productive and become a good performer, you need 2 hours of DEDICATED practice a day. This should be followed regularly everyday. If you follow this, in 4 to 5 years you can become a Pro. Well... that was strictly speaking. But, if you are just learning as a hobby, minimum of half an hour a day is necessary. If you continue this way regularly everyday, in 6 months you will become a decent average player. Other than this, professional performers and players practice 6 hours a day on an average. But am not really sure whether heavy practice like this can be productive. In my learning and teaching experience, 2 hours a day is good. read less

It is not about quantity. It is about Quality of practice. If you have a proper focused practice for even 30 minutes it is much better than 2 hours of fooling on your instrument.

There is no hard and fast rule; however, some intensive programs requires minimum of 4-hour practice per day. I think considering busy life-style, 30 minutes per day 5 days weeks would be ideal for average program. Again, the more time you spend practicing, the faster you progress.
