Hello Students,

Today I will tell you about how to go for the reading section during your IELTS exam. As you all know we have 40 questions for reading section, for both general and academic test and 60 minutes to get the answers right.

So I will give you some tips on how to get through the reading section successfully.

First of all we need to know how the questions appear in the reading section. You will be given options like true, false or not given and you have to choose one option.

Now the first tip for reading section is:

1. Skimming:

Skimming is a very good technique to increase the speed of your reading. It helps you to find the exact answer without wasting time, as during your exam every second is precious. Now, what exactly do you mean by skimming? “Skimming” here in this context will mean to look for only those ideas which are the center point of your passage.

How you can skim?

First read the questions very carefully. When you are done reading the questions read the first couple of paragraphs and 90% of the time you will find the answer to your first couple of questions here. Your eyes should scan for the words that are appearing in the question as well as the passage or the paragraph. Once you are able to do this you can quickly spot your answer.

So skimming will help you to find the answer in a short time.

I will continue with some other tips in the lessons to come.
