Most linguists agree that " Old Hind i" was first spoken in the Delhi-area in the 13th-15th centuries and that it, in turn, came from a medieval language called "Shauraseni Prakit" which was related to Sanskrit.

Languages don't have particular birth dates. For Hindi, we can say the dialect Khariboli started taking standardized form of Hindustani around 13th century. The language got full form under Mughal Empire (15th Century onwards). One thing which might offend many Hindi and Urdu lovers is the fact that Hindavi Boli or Hindi term predates Urdu. Urdu term only came in 1780. So, from 15th till 18th century the language was often called Hindi. We had a Sanskrit based language written in Perso Arabic called Hindi.(or Hindvi Boli). Language of Hind people. For people who adore Urdu, it won't be palatable that the language was called Hindi(Hind,Hindu,Hindi) for centuries and for Hindi lovers it's hard to accept the use of Persian script.(Islamic Connotation). The Hindi we know today in formal form came into existence around 1881 when it became official language of Bihar. read less

Modern Standard Hindi commonly referred to as Hindi ,is an Indo-Aryan language spoken chiefly in Northern India, and serves as the lingua franca of the Hindi Belt region encompassing parts of northern, central, eastern, and western India. Hindi has been described as a standardised and Sanskritised register[19] of the Hindustani language, which itself is based primarily on the Khariboli dialect of Delhi and neighbouring areas of North India.[20][21][22] Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, is one of the two official languages of the Government of India, along with English.[23] It is an official language in nine states and three union territories and an additional official language in three other states.Hindi is also one of the 22 scheduled languages of the Republic of India.
