Like anything, sometimes you just have to do it. So, where do you begin? With the story! What story do you want to tell? If you don't know, just start with some kind of universal truth.
Perhaps you have explored ideas and recorded them in a book. Maybe you have collected quotes that you have read or overheard. or your own memories....If you don't have these collections of inspiration, start collecting! Ideas are around you all the time just waiting to be recognized.
It's not about rhyming or being creative at this point. It's just about recognizing and capturing.
Begin with a universall truth - something that virtually everyone can relate to. Friendship, Hunger, Frustration., Inflation, Victory, Dissappointment,Heartbreak,....etc..etc
This is why so many songs are written about love. It's the easiest subject to work with, and frankly, one of the most important. There is little in life that impacts a human being more than love.
Then, expand from that universal truth and start developing the unique story.. Once you have an idea of what the story is, choose the most effective point of view.
Is the singer talking about himself (1st person),
is he advising someone else (2nd person), or
is he telling a story about someone else altogether (3rd person)?
