Yes.. you can learn guitar without music theory but you'll be able to master it and brush up only with the knowledge of music theory.

Music theory is very much needed to master guitar playing. Education is must for a musician. If someone does not do, then after a certain point he' she will not be able to play good guitar as theory lacking will be there.
