Chords are basically playing more than one note at a time. There can be infinite no. of guitar chords since there are different types and inversions/voicing available for each chord.

But usually there are three types of guitar chords commonly used in songs.

1. Major: Sounds brighter/happier

2. Minor: Resembles sadness

3. Dominant seventh: Creates tension or surprise. (The tension will resolve once the tonic Major chord of the same Key is played).

All the other chords which did not mention will certainly fall into one the above three families.

For e.g: Diminished chords are under the dominant seventh family. Augmented chords are under Major catergory. Hence all the other chords are only the extensions of these main three chord types.
