Basics of Guitar

Hey guys!

So first we should all learn about the basic parts of guitar and what they are called. Now picture a normal acoustic Guitar.

Guitar and it's parts

The top part is known as the 'Head Stock' to which there are 'Tuning Pegs' attached. You can use them to tune your strings which is very important when you want to get a good sound.

The single line between the Head Stock and 'Neck' is called the 'Nut'

Next we look at the 'Neck' of the guitar. The flat surface directly in front of you is called 'Fingerboard'. The spaces in-between the stripes shown are called 'Frets'. There are dots on the Fretboard which are known as 'Position Markers'.

Now we come at the main 'Body' of the guitar. You will see a part called the 'Bridge'. The strings are connected from the 'Bridge Pins' to the Tuning Pegs. The 'Saddle' is the part that elevates the strings so the vibration is present when you play.

The hole in the center the body is known as 'Sound Hole'. When we play the guitar the sound comes out of this hole.

Pick

Pick or Plectrum

The 'Pick Guard' is placed there because sometimes when we strum the strings, the 'Pick' in our hands brushes across the body and scratches may occur.

Now we learn about the names of the strings. There are six strings.

E----------------------------------------------------(high pitched)

B----------------------------------------------------

G----------------------------------------------------

D----------------------------------------------------

A----------------------------------------------------

E----------------------------------------------------(low pitched)

Strings and their names

Always say the names in the order E B G D A E. You would notice that two of the strings are both named as E. One is a high pitched E which is the thinnest of all six strings. And the other one is a low pitched E which is the broadest of all six strings.

Now we are going to play the first three strings E, B and G. We would play this holding the pick or plectrum in our right hand. No left hand for this lesson. That is to say that we would play the three strings open. So let's begin!
