Gender rules:

In German language, every noun belongs to one of the following three gender groups:

Masculine (der), Feminine (die), Neuter (das)
To use the correct article, it is essential to remember the gender of every noun. There are several rules and guidelines determining the articles of some categories of nouns. But beware there are exceptions.

Nouns derived from verbs:

Months: der Januar, der Februar

Names of planes and ships:

Nouns derived from adjectives: das Gute, das Böse

Days of the week:
der Montag, der Dienstag
Cardinal number: die Eins, die drei

Colors:

Compass directions:
der Nordwest, der Süden
