0Well, many students struggles to qulify and/or to get high rank in GATE exam. Many people drop their dreams halfway due to negative thoughts or due to pressure.
But how to overcome our shortcommings?
How to prepare for GATE exam? is their any shortcut?
Many a times, we need to face interviews even after qulifying GATE exam for some specific admisiions like MS in IISc/IITs, PSUs , Ph.D. in IISc/IITs and many more. How to deal with them?
What makes us to fail?
Have look at following steps, it will make your way simple and clear with your destination.
1) Learn the syllbus properly: Many of us never see the syllbus properly, either we go to materials or books blindly or just follow lectures/ coaching classes. In any competitive exams no question is given outside the syllbus. When you open a text book or material you should able to say what is in syllbus or atleast you must identify what is not in the syllabus.
2) Analyse the syllabus: What does it mean?
Example: In the syllabus it is given like;
Section 3: Electronic Devices Energy bands in intrinsic and extrinsic silicon; Carrier transport: diffusion current, drift current, mobility and resistivity; Generation and recombination of carriers; Poisson and continuity equations; P-N junction, Zener diode, BJT, MOS capacitor, MOSFET, LED, photo diode and solar cell; Integrated circuit fabrication process: oxidation, diffusion, ion implantation, photolithography and twin-tub CMOS process.
Energy bands in intrinsic and extrinsic silicon: You should know/refer old q.paers/ask seniors/your academic books etc. What all comes in this topic?
Say, Energy bands: How many times of energy bands? how they are created? importence of energy bands? can we move those energy bands? is there any mathematicel relation between energy bands? etc.
Now,intrinsic and extrinsic silicon: look here, the syllbus is only for SILICON materilas, so you can completely forget Germenium! What is interinsic ? what is intrinsic? what is the difference between them? what is the relation between them? how we produce intrinsic and extrinsic materils? etc
Now you get an idea about the topic. now go with these questions, learn them properly and solve old question papers. If you could do without any issues you are done with that topics. If you are not, learn what you left and the topics you are not cleared.
Do this for the all the subjects. This is the process of learning so don't demoralise yourself if you could't solve some problems or identify some topis/ questions. Practice as much as you can. But try to complete syllbus to get good rank.
3) Note making: Here note making means just write the questions (while you did analysing) and mistakes you have done while solving problems and the formulae you regularly forgets and any importent questions/topics(min as min possible). Thats it. no more notes taking. While revising just ask questions yourself weather you can answer them or not. if couldnt answer, see what made you to forget and rectify it.
GATE is comprise of problems than theroy based questions. Thus focus on problem solving techniques than mear theory. These days we are getting more NAT(numerical anser type) questions more, so accurecy is importent. Focus on it. Practice is key to success.
4) Test series: Many students keep test series for last month preparation like dec/jan. Some students skip them. But I should say, prctice test series from the month you start your preparation.It shows your sterngth and weakness, and you will be having lot of time to rectify them.So dont neglect them.
5) Lastly: As the exam approach, students will be tensed and they could not do well under pressure. Especially from the month Dec-Feb. Your whole prepartion's fate is decided in these months. What ever your preparation may be, how good you are may be but these 2-3 months decide your fate. So dont be panic, dont be under pressure, dont be overconfident.
Just revise and practice, revise practice.
