Most Candaian universities prefer IELTS, though TOEFL is accepted in many universities as well.

The most common requirement for SDS-listed colleges is an overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no less than 6 bands in IELTS for Canada. However, the TOEFL and IELTS band for Canada requirements change from program to program, such as Graduate, Undergraduate and specialized courses.

Most Universities in Canada require IELTS as proof of English language proficiency for the Master’s program. Both IELTS and TOEFL are widely accepted all over the country by all the Universities, but IELTS is generally preferred. The average requirement is 6.5 bands overall, with no less than 6.0 in each module.

TOEFL scores are accepted by more than 11,000 universities in 150 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, and Germany. Between the two exams, TOEFL is preferred in the US, while IELTS is preferred in other countries.

IELTS is only widely used and regarded as essential for admission to graduate school in the United Kingdom and Australia. Usually, American institutions only accept TOEFL results. Before taking the test, it is advised that students review the university's requirements.

You can prepare for both GRE and TOEFL at the same time. GRE verbal reasoning is similar to TOEFL reading. GRE vocabulary is at a higher level. So prepare yourself on GRE vocabulary more.

The skills and questions are similar on verbal reasoning and reading of the two exams. Alternate between the TOEFL speaking and writing tests and GRE essay writing. TOEFL can be treated as a warm up to GRE.

Start timing yourself once you have prepared enough on the above. That will give you an idea on your skills and speed.
