Kathak is one of the eight primary classical dance forms of India. Kathak is an ancient dance form. Kathak means Katha in Hindi, which means a story, so a Kathak dancer mainly tries to portray a story; it might be about Radha Krishna or any other God. They narrate the story through their hand gestures, facial expressions, movements, foot movements, footwork. An important of the Kathak is the Chakkars or rounds that are taken. Kathak is influenced by the Mughal period. Kathak has three Gharanas one is Jaipur Gharana, another is Lucknow Gharana, and the third is Benaras Gharana. Jaipur Gharana focuses on more of footwork while the other two Gharanas it is mainly about facial expressions, hand movements and eyes and Adakari.
This can’t be said as in Kathak or any other classical dance form there is no time limit. It is always about the more and more practice that you can do—considering that there is a considerable lot of difference between learning a dance form and mastering it. Learning is a continuous process, and with professional Kathak, learning shouldn’t stop.
