A chemical bond in which atoms share the valence electron instead of releasing or gaining them for making a molecule. Carbon has four valence electrons. It makes it impossible to either lose or gain electrons from other atoms. If it sheds four electrons, its nucleus will become very heavy, and its shells and shells will collapse into the nucleus. On the other hand, if it gains four electrons, its shells will become more charged than its nucleus causing it to burst. Thus a covalent bond is necessary for carbon to make compounds.
