First of all, people find western dance and music more engaging, and they are usually attracted by the beats of the songs. On the other side, people considers classical dance and music boring because they are not able to identify the beauty in it.

Thus, the dance in the West became an expression of action, whereas Indian Classical dance focuses mainly on contemplation, story-telling, praising the gods, exploiting and depicting all kinds of emotions through mythology and true stories of many poets and important people in our history and culture

Well, the answer to this question mainly depends upon the choices of a person, but as a kathak dancer, I can point out some of the reasons for this.

First of all, people find western dance and music more engaging, and they are usually attracted by the beats of the songs. On the other side, people considers classical dance and music boring because they are not able to identify the beauty in it.

Also, todays society is inclining more towards the western dance and its demand is increasing. All the movies you see today have more of the western dance form than the classical one (except some ofc). People fail to recognize the beauty of the Indian classical dances and how you are able to express yourself better with them( i feel that).

But let me tell you, Indian classical dances have their beauty in their own way, i realised it while i started learning it. And now i am able to do classical as well as western both.

In the end I would only like to say that you can do western dance more easily by learning classical one, but vice versa is more difficult.
