The Common Proficiency Test is an entry level test for Chartered Accountancy Course. It is conducted twice in a year – June and December. The exam consists of four sections: Fundamentals of Accounting, Mercantile Laws, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude.
The exam consists of objective type questions which evaluates a candidate’s understanding of basic knowledge of Accounting, Mercantile Laws, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude. The test consists of two sessions (two hours for each session), carrying a total of 200 marks (100 marks for each session). A candidate needs to secure a minimum of 18 marks out of 60 in Fundamentals of Accounting (Part A) and 12 out of 40 marks in Mercantile Laws (Part B) in the Session 1 exam. On the other hand, a candidate needs to secure 15 out of 50 marks in both General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude. The Session II consists of two parts – C and D, carrying a total of 100 marks. To qualify the CPT test, a student needs to secure at least 50% in aggregate (overall) in the four sections.
