Network hardware is the physical equipment that enables communication and data sharing between devices on a network. Examples include routers, switches, modems, hubs, bridges, network interface cards (NICs), and antennas.

  • Routers: Direct data packets between networks, acting as the internet's "traffic directors". They connect LANs and WANs, forwarding data packets based on their IP addresses.
  • Bridges: Combine multiple physically separated network segments into a single logical network segment. They can also bridge different physical media, like ethernet to wireless.
  • NICs: Allow endpoint devices to connect to a network. They can be wireless.

Some other types of network hardware include: Firewalls, File servers, Repeaters, and Cables.

Examples of computer networks include home networks, school or office networks, cafes with free Wi-Fi, cloud computing networks, and smart city networks.
