There are set answers. If there are two words in a solution ('young cattle' or 'the cattle') and you are required to write both the words to get one mark. If you write only one word, you won't get a mark. However, in an answer choice, only one word is necessary (cattle) but one more word is also acceptable (young or the), then you will get one mark. Usually, the words will be given in the brackets like these - (young) cattle, (the) cattle.

It is an invalid complaint as the test is very authentic and reputable all over the world. Unlike listening and reading, where there are set answers and cannot be disputed, speaking and writing are evaluated by human beings. Hence, the scores are prone to change depending upon various external factors (time, mood, context, questions during the performance of the candidate). Although there may be + or - .5 band differences between two examiners can be noticed, they must not be blamed for the score one receives in the test.

For Academic, writing task 1 is data interpretation. It is understanding pictorial representation and putting them in words. Varieties of pictures such as line graph, bar chart and the pie chart will be asked. One is expected to understand the 'overall picture', 'major changes', and 'the flow of the changes' and write these in words. Spend about 5 minutes to study the picture, make notes of the 'changes' and begin to write.
For General, writing task 1 is letter writing. Understand whether it is a formal, informal, or semi-formal letter writing. Start learning appropriate words, phrases and sentences depending upon the situations and contexts.

I will give you some guidelines for task 2 - essay writing.
1) Spend close to 10 minutes as your preparation time before you start to write.
2) Understand the essay topic and rewrite the same in two or three different ways using your own vocabulary. (once you understand the topic, you gain the confidence to explicate the topic ideas further) Use these sentences in your introduction, main body paragraphs and conclusion.
3) It is always better to start with a topic sentence, and other ideas/ sentences should revolve around this main idea. Provide the examples that you have gone through in your real life.
4) Use appropriate conjunctions to link the ideas/sentences and paragraphs. They should flow.
5) Read through and make necessary corrections such as spelling and punctuation.
