Even without friction, a body can be set in motion but the body will not stop if there is no friction. so for a balanced state of motion, friction plays a vital role

Yes...sometimes it provides translation motion and sometimesit can provide torque required for rotation. E.g a block kept on another block. Now you start pulling lower block, you will find upto sone extent upper block is also moving with lower oone inspite of absence of any force on upper one. The reason is friction force acting on upper block which causes to move it further. If friction would have been zero there thn the upper block would have fallen down immediately. Another example is a cylinder just kept on an inclined plane. Now the cylinder starts rolling. So from where rotation mitiin came info picture . the reason is friction which gives necessary torque to body for rotation. read less

There are essentially three types of friction. Rolling friction:- For rolling motion to occur rolling friction is essential but the cause for motion is the energy that you provide. If friction were not present it will still undergo a translation motion. So, friction doesn't cause motion of all types. Same...

There are essentially three types of friction. Rolling friction:- For rolling motion to occur rolling friction is essential but the cause for motion is the energy that you provide. If friction were not present it will still undergo a translation motion. So, friction doesn't cause motion of all types. Same with static friction: An engine provides power for the train to run, but without friction the train would slip and stay at the same place. Friction can be said as a transmission phenomenon not a prime mover. While you are walking or resting against a wall and if you try to push your feet too hard backwards, it will slip. But kinetic friction will always oppose motion and do negative work. read less

No. In fact friction does not cause motion rather it opposes motion.

YES kinetic friction causing motion: example: a hockey puck sliding on ice static friction causing motion: example: a balloon statically charged moving hair on your head

Yes. The very definition motion makes it clear that a body is supposed to be in motion when force is applied to either accelerate it or decelerate it. That is an object is deemed to be stationary both in cases where is it is still or when it is moving at a constant rate. Friction is the force that restrains...

So friction is also instrumental in motion. read less
