prepare a TimeTable where you devote time to your subjects and stick to it. - Be ready for sacrifices if you aspire for a place in the merit list, you need to work harder and smarter than others. You have to be focused on your goal always. Finally, be consistent with your studies. Not like, you study 8 hours one day and then don't study for the next 2 days that approach wont work.
