Gold was chosen for particle scattering experiment as it is highly malleable( can be beaten into thin sheets) and ductile( can be drawn into thin wires). Atoms and molecules are much much tinier than sand grains. And gold was beaten into sheet width approximately 1-3 atoms size so that when tiny particles...

There are no other known metals of such malleability at that time.

Calculate the mass of 0.5 mole of N2 gas (mass from mole of molecule).
Molar mass of N2 is 28(since atomic weight of nitrogen is 14and forN2=14*2). So mass of 1 mole of N2 is 28g.Therefore mass of 0.5 mole is 28/2 =14g

Helium atom has an atomic mass of 4u and two protons in its nucleus. How many neutrons does it have?
Mass number of Helium = 4 Number of protons = 2 Number of neutrons(n) = Number of Mass(A) — Number of proton (P) = 4 – 2 = 2 Thus, No. of neutrons = 2

Two balls of different masses are thrown vertically upwards with same velocity. Which one of them will rise to the greater height?
The calculation of height is independent of the mass of the object. The height depends on the velocity with which the object is projected upwards. Thus both objects reach the same height.
