The First Law of Thermodynamics
It specifies that energy is recollected. According to it, the energy is never made nor extinguished but it can be altered. The quantity of energy lost by a system will be an equal measure of the quantity of energy absorbed by the environment during the energy alteration between the system and the environment. When the system employs energy from the environment, then it is referred to as endothermic. Similarly, when the system wastes energy to the environment then it is referred to as exothermic.
Enthalpy of formation
Enthalpy of formation (Δ Hf ) mentions the quantity of energy essential to produce a compound from its composition of elements. The standard enthalpy of formation refers to the quantity of energy essential to produce one mole of a mixture from its composition of elements.
Example
One half mole of gaseous hydrogen H2(g) reacts with one half mole of gaseous chlorine Cl2(g) to produce one mole of gaseous hydrogen chloride HCl(g) with the enthalpy of formation of − 92.30 kJ.
Show the creation of carbon dioxide from methane with the enthalpy of formation values as in Figure (1).
First law of thermodynamics- energy can't be created or destroyed, but it can be changed. The equation below say that the given heat to the system convert to work and internal energy of the system.
dq=dW+dE
Standard enthalpy of formation- enthalpy change during the formation of 1 mole of substance from it's constituent element.
For example H2 +(1/2)O2 ---> H2O enthalpy of formation of 1mol of H2O from the H2 and O2.
