When your king is in check it is not always necessary to move the king. There are other options to remove/capture the attacker, block the check with another piece of yours which can be done if possible. However, note that the check given by a knight cannot be blocked at all.
But if your move does not prevent check and keeps the king exposed to the attack then that will not be considered as a valid move. It is called an "illegal move".
When this happens you will be given a warning and will have to undo your move and play for the check.
But if there is no way for you to protect your king from check, then it will lead to a "checkmate".

1) Actually, it's an illegal move. As per FIDE chess rules, if you make two illegal moves in your game, you directly lose the game.
2) but you have an option if it is your 1st warning, just block the check with other possible material on the board or move your king to another side not be again check side.
In such a scenario, if you play any move which does not stop the check, your progress will be counted as Illegal Move number 1, and it will be taken back.
If you repeat the same mistake throughout the game, the second mistake will be counted as Illegal Move number 2.
At two illegal moves, you lose the game.
