I used to teach kids with elderly touch so that they will show interest in the game. Make them understand the rules of the game in a simple way by introducing pieces one after the other and their movement etc. Teaching various puzzles of chess like mate in 1,2,3,4, fork, pin, double attack etc., so that they can apply these concepts and tactics in the middle game. After explaining the concept I ensure that they do the puzzles on their own. If they do not know the solution, I will make them to find the solution by giving various clues without giving the direct answer thereby increasing their thinking power.
