"A very rational approach towards indian classical music. Wonderful to have a teacher such as Mr.Bhaskaran. "
Srinivas Poluru
"I have been learning from Bhaskaran sir for a while now and I can confidently recommend him to anyone serious about learning carnatic flute. He is someone who encourages and provides constructive feedback which helped me make satisfactory progress. While one's progress ultimately depends on the practice one puts in, a good teacher is critical to ensure the learning curve is made enjoyable and the learning pace is commensurate with one's personality and style. In addition to providing live feedback during the class, Bhaskaran sir also provides access to recorded audio lessons which acted as a reference point to measure my progress and helped me improve faster during my practice. He is also very good at conducting skype lessons which help students like me who cannot attend in person. So, if you are serious about learning carnatic flute, he is an great choice for a teacher! All the best! "

"Sri Bhaskaran is a very accomplished flutist as well as a top class technologist and consultant. He is a veteran in distance teaching and understands the nuances of teaching pupils at all levels very well. Would recommend to anyone without any hesitation. "

"My son made very rapid progress with Bhaskaran of BILVAA. From his patience to his understanding of how people learn in addition to his own deep expertise in carnatic music and the fingering and blowing techniques, Bhaskaran is the best ever teacher I could have met. "
Arvind Srivaths
"I have been learning from Sri Bhaskaran for several years. Learning to play the flute from him has given me a great happiness. He teaches many gamakas that make the piece sound very pleasing to the ear. Because of his engineering background and long teaching experience he is able to quickly spot small mistakes in technique and correct them to improve the ease and speed of playing. And he gives a few corrections at each stage so that the learner progresses and yet is not overwhelmed by the imperfections in his playing. "

"Mr Bhaskaran has been guiding my son for the past 2 years. He is a top ranking flute artiste and a phenomenal teacher. He is able to assess the student's strengths and weaknesses, and classes are customized to accommodate that. We live in the US, so classes are held over skype. He is thorough with sending notes and audio recordings to supplement classes. He is extremely dedicated, patient and is very caring towards his students. My son is indeed fortunate to be under the guidance of this exceptional guru. "
Shloka Raghavan
"He is a very good teacher because he genuinely wants to ensure that you learn how to play the flute properly and well. To this end, he takes the time to provide constructive criticism on how to improve your playing, and he is patient and helpful if you are having trouble with a particular aspect of the lesson. "
Sree Nilakanta
"Mr. Bhaskaran is able to diagnose and provide effective learning approaches to transform the learner to high levels of mastery of flute playing. For example, simple tactics eliminate frustrating fingering techniques. If you are scientifically oriented, his science and engineering based suggestions on techniques are fantastic. He is very patient with students. Willing to work around your schedule too. Having learnt from a few other teachers, I find Mr. Bhaskaran the best teacher I have had. "
Prasanna
"I have been a student of K.Bhaskaran from 1998. Initially one on one for several years and from 2007 for sometime over skype (from Germany). He is an excellent teacher with a lot of patience and he incorporates the excellence on to his students. With a lot of creative ideas, he is also a wonderful motivator and encourages his students to think out-of-the-box. "
Hari Sarma
"His dedication, motivational on my son to continue learning and his knowledge and brilliance on playing and teaching flute. He also encourages both on site classes (gurukulam) and leverages collaborative technology. He embodies the phrase "bring A rate knowledge to the student anytime, anywhere" "
Sankara Sarma
"I have been learning carnatic flute from Sri K.Bhaskaran for more than 5 years now. As I am based out of US, my classes are done through Skype. I am appreciative of the fact that he has kept my interest in learning Flute alive through his innovative approach in teaching. I am impressed with his ability to describe the complexities of carnatic music in simple terms. I am blessed to have him as my Flute Guru! Sankara Sarma California, US "
Gopalakrishnan Srinivasan
"He is an excellent teacher, and one of the top flute maestros in the Carnatic world today. I would refer him as a flute teacher strongly to anyone in the world "
Trevor Samaroo
"Mr Bhaskaran has been most helpful from the start! He quickly evaluated my potential for flute and designed a learning course as he saw fit for me. It is not an easy instrument and he not only possess a wealth of knowledge and skill with the instrument but has generous patience to bear the screeching and shrillness that comes with mistakes along the learning path. Learning via internet has it's challenges but his technical knowledge is advantageous for this arrangement. Classes are not only educational but inspiring. He has made me improve not only my flute skills but my outlook on the learning process through his focus on genuinely helping you to become better. "

Not mandatory to have a basic understanding of Carnatic music to start learning flute, but it will help. However as you start learning and practising flute, you should also get more exposure to Carnatic music by listening to clips, concerts , etc, which will help your learning process. You can google search for flute bhaskaran , whic is based in Chennai for getting high quality flute lessons in Chennai directly as well as online from any part of the world. Best Wishes for your learning experience

My recommendation would be to expose the kid to Carnatic music by playing recordings at home and listening along with the kid. For Carnatic music, three years is a bit early for proper Carnatic music lessons. Perhaps five would be comfortable to very few teachers, but seven is OK. If the child is extraordinary -( you will know that quickly or take the child to an experienced teacher for assessment of potential. ), perhaps sporadic cases 3 years could work out. But just being able to sing rhymes and shlokas may not be an indication that you could start so early.
However, constant exposure to good quality Carnatic music (even Indian-style light music or light classical music would be helpful) will go a long way in kidling the child's interest and aptitude. But please continue the classes of shlokas and chants, which will also develop the child's mind and musical / voice-related capabilities. Especially as you have said, there is no family background.
Best Wishes!

It will be useful, but not a must. We have taught people who did not have any background of Carnatic music who have been able to pick up flute playing. They have developed a basic understanding of Carnatic music in the process of learning flute itself. If they are more self-motivated to learn about Carnatic, they can be guided to listen to the various recording, and develop an appreciation.

Rhythm is the heart of drum playing, and a drummer should have rhythm in his skin. That is the way he becomes a master drummer. Mastery of rhythm should be a primary goal for a drummer, in my opinion. This way, the rhythm can even make mediocre music stand out as outstanding music.
The beats add to the overall impact of the music on the listener. Of course in the pure rhythm part of the show, the drummer is the leading performer, and the rhythm aspect is equally if not more, essential to strike the right chord with the listeners and capture a permanent place in their hearts.

Depends - First, the style of guitar you want to learn has to be decided - acoustic, electric or Hawaiian.
Please meet a guitar teacher or school and take a look at guitars and ask him for suggestions, - Do it after this lockdown. Do it on Skype otherwise once you locate an excellent guitar expert. I teach only flute and a bit of vocal, Carnatic. It is my advice.
