Generally, people from South India, who have more exposure to Hindu devotional songs, bhajans will find it easier to learn Carnatic than people from north India or foreign country.

So, don't come to conclusion. Find a good teacher and he will be able to guide you in this regard.

Carnatic music is called as Sasthriya Sangeetham. It means it has to be learnt in the right manner from the right Guru. It is not hard if one can find a right Guru and if one can dedicate and spend real time for the practice sessions and be regular to classes and attentive.
