I think this a very demanding and creative profession with high energy levels. If your son is passionate about fashion and design, he can create his portfolio if he has done something on his own. I would prefer that first, he realises that and does something on his own apart from getting guidelines from experts or passionate people in this field. Let him first finish his class 10, ask him to concentrate on that, dont put too much pressure right now.

I would say that it is essential to understand first if it is a passing interest!!! Has he done anything related to fashion designing or likewise? Getting into NIFT or for that matter, any course or program is secondary. The primary factor is a passion for what the person wants to do. Every area is delicate and unfortunately in today's world, social media, movies, serials and other forms of communication kind of project that life is straightforward and there is no struggle, which is not what reality is. So it is essential to dig in a bit to understand before getting into a specific career or role.
