int is the data type of the value returned by the main() function in C . It is generally '0'. The last statement of the main() function is return 0; Here '0' is of type int , hence we write ' int main()' as the function signature.

It is the function from C++ which must be present in any program. The 'int' part is the return type of the function, which means that the function main will return the value which will be of type integer.

There should be a munimin one main() function. It's where your c program execution starts. And int is the return type. When main() completes it should inform to __startup code about it's status whether success or failure, so at the end of main() you will find return 0.
