Hi, I'm an automation test engineer and a certified s/w test engineer (CSTE - QAI). I work with databases at a beginner level but I'm planning to master working with databases. I'm interested in taking a certification exam as-well. I am not interested in making a career switch but want to add it to my skill set. Considering my background, what training/certification should I go for? Please also suggest some beginner level certifications that would be helpful for me to add to my skill set.

Hi Kumar, Automation has lots of scope in current world of RPA. I worked in SQL Server Database as DBA and Architect for last 15+ years and currently managing a team of developers and Automation developers and analysts. To get into more on Automation, you don't need to get Database Knowledge, but yes, it gives automation a boost especially when you do Automation integrate with current process. You can take up any basic courses to learn about that. Even in youtube you can get those info. Since you don't want to change your area of interest in Automation, try to get certify in BluePrism, Automation Anywhere type of tools which will give you a real boost. And if you want to learn database basics and its use, you can try the "MTA: Database" from Microsoft. The reason I suggest for this option is, most of the Automation tools are based out .Net technology and it works seamlessly with SQL Server. I am not against with Oracle or other tools, but in automation domain, I have come across the about tools and those tools have very well maintained libraries which can integrate with any Databases like SQL, Oracle, Sybase, MySQL etc. So its fine with any DB stream.
