Hi Since you are coming from an HR background, the primary work in HR analytics and data science can be very well tackled by both R and Python. However, if you are looking to get into more advanced text-based machine learning like resume filtering, attrition prediction, then I would recommend python. Else for traditional data science and analytics definitely, you can choose either of the two. If you are new to coding, then R would be better off for you as it specifically built for data science.
