Agile development is guided by four core values, as outlined in the Agile Manifesto. These values prioritize certain aspects of the development process to foster collaboration, flexibility, and customer satisfaction. The four values of Agile development are:

  1. Individuals and Interactions over Processes and Tools:

    • This value emphasizes the importance of people and their interactions in the development process. While processes and tools are essential, Agile places a higher value on effective communication, collaboration, and the relationships among team members.
  2. Working Software over Comprehensive Documentation:

    • Agile values working software as the primary measure of progress. While documentation is necessary, the focus should be on delivering functional software that meets customer needs. The goal is to minimize unnecessary paperwork and prioritize tangible, executable results.
  3. Customer Collaboration over Contract Negotiation:

    • Agile encourages collaboration with customers throughout the development process. Rather than relying solely on predefined contracts and negotiations, Agile development seeks continuous customer involvement. This helps ensure that the product aligns with customer expectations and can adapt to changing requirements.
  4. Responding to Change over Following a Plan:

    • Agile embraces change and values the ability to respond to evolving requirements. While planning is important, Agile development acknowledges that change is inevitable, and the team should be adaptive and responsive to customer feedback and shifting priorities.

These four values are complemented by 12 Agile principles that provide more detailed guidance on how to apply these values in the development process. The Agile Manifesto, including both values and principles, serves as a foundational document for Agile development teams and organizations seeking to embrace Agile methodologies.
