Here is an excerpt from the interview with Rajib Ranjit, a Guitar Trainer from Kolkata: Q. When and how did you start as a Guitar Trainer? Ans. I started my Guitar training career in 2004, following my own concepts and techniques. But, after being visiting a music academy in San Francisco, I was shocked to see the modern and easy way to understand the system of teaching guitar that was not available in India. Without any delay, I started to study and gather as much as resources from the Internet and famous guitarists in my country, who already wanted to ease the process of teaching Guitar. After completed the GR 8 exam from Trinity College on Classical Guitar in 2008, I shifted my musical career as a full-time Guitar Trainer rather than to limit myself only to live performance. Q. What skills are required to become a Guitar Trainer? Ans 2. The overall skills that a Guitar Trainer should have are as follows: 1. Understand why a student wants to learn Guitar e.g. as a hobby, profession or extracurricular activities 2. Set a target for each student every month 3.  Always keep in touch with students other than class timing 4. Be polite and friendly 5. Maintain your class timing strictly 6. A trainer should have the power of assessing the students’ progress properly. This would help to understand whether a student has completed his/her lessons at his/her level 7. Put the same effort for every student regardless of talent. 8. Conduct quality classes to meet target students Q. What do you think makes you stand out from other Guitar Trainers on UrbanPro.com? Ans. I follow the traditional method of teaching and try to understand students’ requirement first. I organize lessons differently for each student according to their needs and likes. For serious and focused students, I follow grade approach teaching from beginner’s to advanced level. Since last 15 years, I have noticed closely that lots of teachers are teaching guitar without having any graded certificate from any global Music College. Once I was asked by someone, “What’s the need of certificate in case of teaching guitar?” I know that music comes from one’s soft, beautiful and passionate mind. But only passion is not enough to be a great musician, hard work and systematic approach are equally important criteria for learning any kind of music. The value of certificate plays an important role especially in Western Classical instruments like Guitar, Piano, Violin etc. Q. How you came across UrbanPro.com? Ans. In spite of having all the requisite qualities of a Guitar Trainer, I was not getting enough number of students that could help me to teach Guitar, as a full-time profession.
