Q1. When and how you started as a Self Defence Trainer?
Ans. Being the child of a single mother, I understood early on the importance of learning Self defence. My mother signed me up for Judo when I was 7 as bullying was very common at school. My Martial Arts journey went from Judo to Karate, Taekwondo to Kickboxing, Jujutsu to MMA. Once I grew up keeping in mind what my mother and I had to deal with I was very passionate about this and started focusing on the Self Defence part of the Martial Arts as well. At the age of 16 yrs, I conducted my first Self Defence session in Delhi and at the age of 19 (1995), I was conducting Self Defence classes and competition sparring camps for Taekwondo and Kickboxing in my Jr. College in Kansas, USA. Since I came back to India, I have had the opportunity to work with many NGOs and institutions to bring awareness.
Q2. What skills are required to become a Self Defence Trainer?
Ans. One of the most important skills would be communication as nothing can or should get lost in translation. Having the ability to break down every technique into a simplified format along with making students/clients feel comfortable while bringing them out of their comfort zone so they can in practice put themselves in positions that they potentially could be in if they are ever approached by an attacker.

Ans. Having been on both sides of the situation and having experience in multiple forms of Martial Arts and having trained in MMA allows me to teach simplified yet effective unadulterated techniques. Also, being able to connect at a certain level to create safety for exploring vulnerable situations and having a solution for the same. Having a holistic approach also gets me a lot of positive results.

Q5. What was the turning point in your career?
Ans. After working with underprivileged women and children orphans/abused etc. I started concentrating more on teaching Self Defence to those who could not afford it. It is a passion and I feel I could do it 24 hours a day.

About the Trainer: Vishal Seigell is an international Self Defence Trainer with over 20 years of experience. He has trained and competed in India, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Amsterdam, Australia, Japan and USA. His association with Self Defence Classes began from the time he was in School. Being raised by a single mother, he knew the importance of self-defence from early on. At the age of 16 years, Vishal started to provide Self Defence classes. Since then there is no looking back for Vishal, he is also an expert in Taekwondo, Kickboxing and MMA.
