Varsha, a professor and career counsellor, has more than 10 years of experience in the field of education. Q1. When and how did you start as a Professional Career Counsellor?
Beginning to work as a career counsellor in March 2019, was initially an added profession for me since I was already working as a lecturer. During my teaching tenure of over 10 years, I came across many students who joined college just for the degree, without any aim for making a career. That’s when I got compelled to take up the challenge of grooming and counselling students to do something promising in life.
Q2. What skills are required to become a Professional Career Counsellor?
One requires a lot of patience to listen to students; great analytical skill to analyse the situations; knowledge about competitive exams, scholarships, current courses, and colleges offering various degrees in diploma, bachelors, masters and doctorate.
Q3. What do you think makes you stand out from other Professional Career Counsellors on UrbanPro.com?
I completed a certificate course in counselling along with my lecturer job, where I practically come across career-related problems students. This enhanced my experience of career counselling, not only because I interacted with a lot of students almost on a daily basis, but also as I spent several hours with them, while teaching, correcting their assignments and working on projects, during college fests and activities. Working as a manager in finance for a manufacturing company for more than 5 years and then switching to the teaching and counselling field, was the turning point in my career.
