We are happy to feature Smit Shah, a professional Pianist & Chamber Musician from Goregaon West, Mumbai. He has trained more than 200 students from various age groups and is looking forward to teaching many more in the coming years. He has performed many solos and chamber repertoires in the past 9 years. Smit has also worked as an accompanist for singers, string players, the Stopgaps Choral Ensemble and 2 Ballet schools since 2018. His students know him best for his unhindered attention towards them.
He started training the students from a very young age. Smit is pursuing his bachelor's from Rizvi College of Engineering. He is also a Grade 8 Piano artist from Trinity College London 2016. He had completed ATCL from Trinity College London in 2019.

Q1. When and how did you start working as a Piano trainer?
Ans I joined the Tutor Partnership program in July 2021. One aspect that really attracted me to the program was the availability to provide a free masterclass streamed live on the UrbanPro platform and on YouTube. It really helped me know the music requirements of many students across India and allowed me to expand my reach as a tutor.
Q2. What skills are required to become a Piano trainer?
Ans A training in music pedagogy, western classical performance experience, and a good understanding of music theory are required to become a Piano trainer.
Q3. What, according to you, helps you stand out from other Piano trainers on UrbanPro.com?
Ans I have performance experience of more than 10 years. I have played in esteemed venues in India such as the NCPA Mumbai, Goa, and in international music festivals such as the Ameropa 2017(Prague, Europe). The music degree of ATCL (Associate of Trinity College London) that I was awarded distinction is also worth noting. I have also participated in National Piano Competitions such as the Conbrio 2020, standing in 4th place for the same. I have also won awards for participating in various online music festivals, all of which have been live-streamed on YouTube.
Q4. How did you come across UrbanPro.com?
Ans I had always wanted to expand the scope of my teaching to a larger area. Since an online medium was the only way to do so, I immediately started looking for a platform that would help me achieve my goal. Because I had heard a lot of positive reviews about Urbanpro.com, I decided to join as a teacher in the same. So far, I have been really happy with the decision.
Q5. What was the turning point in your career?
Ans I had always been hesitant to use an online platform, especially because I teach a musical instrument that involves subtlety and attention to detail. However, the turning point in my teaching career was when I realized the benefits of an online platform and learned to modify my teaching according to its requirements. I never imagined that online classes would be so beneficial both for me as a teacher and my students' progress.

About the Tutor - In these few years, Smit has gained quite a popularity and has been nominated 'Tutor of the month' earlier. Smit follows the syllabus and structure of the Trinity College of London and provides all the study materials. He was also selected to perform as a solo pianist in the Ameropa Prague festival, Europe, in 2017. In addition, Smit was a special mention awardee at the all India Con Brio Piano competition, 2020, in Mumbai.
