Our heartiest congratulations to Kamaljith!
Here is an excerpt from the interview with Kamaljith MS.
Q1. When and how did you start as an IELTS trainer? In the year 2012, I was part of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity that was conducted in a rural area. Attending this activity gave me the insight and urge to train people in English courses, and to empower the less privileged. This eventually made me take up IELTS training. I shifted to Chennai in 2015 and started working from my home-based academy on IELTS and similar courses. With the help of UrbanPro, I now have students from seven countries across the world. Q2. What skills are required to become an IELTS trainer? In my opinion, this has more to do with- How well you understand the needs of every student you meet. One should understand and respond to the students’ needs in terms of competency in the language. It is also important to be aware of the metrics required for IELTS regulated by the British Council or International Development Program (IDP) in each section of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students should have a stringent goal plan along with time constraint awareness- this is a key factor for their success. Every IELTS trainer’s role here is to stick to one plan as per the students’ strength and help them with incessant practice until thier goal is achieved. A precise goal plan, persuasive skills, perseverance and patience are some of the essential qualities a trainer has to possess. Q3. What do you think makes you stand out from other IELTS trainers on UrbanPro.com? I first try to analyse a student on the basis of what area he/she has to work on, on a priority basis. Then, post psychometric and language competency evaluation, I create a plan based on the strengths and weaknesses of pupils, in terms of listening, reading, speaking and writing section, as per the IELTS standards. If necessary, I sometimes start with IELTS grammar basics and ensure that students' practice as many mock tests until they secure the desired score with us. Personally, I don’t feel that I stand out from peer trainers on UrbanPro platform; it’s the self-discipline that makes any man/woman stand out from the rest. Also, I believe in two principles- ‘Be simple and sincere’ and ‘Practice alone makes a man perfect.’ Q4. How did you come across UrbanPro.com? One of my friends, who was a trainer on UrbanPro referred me to this wonderful platform to connect with learning aspirants and trainers. Q5. What was the turning point in your career? It was back in 2009 when I was working for a reputed IT company, I was asked to conduct a workshop on soft skills amongst colleagues. Though the presentation didn’t go as well as I expected, now it all looks different as the sands of time pass by. I would like to mention it as,‘defining the purpose of life’, rather than terming it as a ‘turning point’. To serve others and to be served for the right cause is the right attitude. Q6. How did UrbanPro.com help you expand your teaching classes? The lion’s share of my online training enquiries is through UrbanPro. Almost 95 per cent of the enquires turn out to be potential students, because all the enquiries are verified by UrbanPro, prior to reaching a tutor’s inbox. I really appreciate and value the partnership with UrbanPro and look forward to a long association, without a second thought. Q7. What percentage of your work comes from UrbanPro.com? An accountable 30 to 35 per cent of my students every month turn out to be from UrbanPro.
