We have X+Y=180..(1)

larger angle exceeds thrice  smaller by 20

∴X=3Y+20..(2)

Solving (1)&(2)

X+Y=180

X-3Y=20

4Y=160⇒Y=40... smaller angle

∴larger angle X=140

If smaller angle =X , then larger = 3X +20 . so X + 3X +20 = 180 , or 4X +20 = 180 or 4X = 160, then X = 40 smaller angle ,and larger angle =140 , answer
