Indian Administrative Service (IAS)

Formerly known as Imperial Civil Service (ICS), Indian Administrative Service exam is one of the civil services examinations conducted by UPSC. IAS exam is considered the toughest exam to crack in India with roughly 10 lakhs applicants each year. Among the endless number of applicants, only a few competent candidates can crack this exam. Keep in mind, IAS is the highest administrative post among all.

With regards to the IAS examination pattern, there are Prelims, Mains, and IAS Interview. IAS Preliminary Exam: This qualifying round has two papers - General Ability Test (GTA) and the Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT). The examination is based on multiple choice questions (objective in nature), and it has 400 questions along with negative marking system.

• IAS Mains: This examination consists of 2 sections. The initial segment has 2 language papers and the second segment has 7 papers, which sum up to the overall 9 subjects. The subjects are Indian Languages, English, Essay, General Studies I, General Studies II, General Studies III, General Studies IV, Optional Subject: Paper I and Optional Subject: Paper II.
• IAS Interview: Candidates who qualified Prelims exam will appear for the personal interview alongside Assessment and Psychometric test.
