Digestion

We always need the energy to do any kind of work. In fact, all living organisms do need energy. But, where does this energy come from?

Yes, the food that we eat. Now how is the food that we eat converted into energy?

That is what we will study indigestion which is the process of breaking down larger food molecules into smaller molecules, which helps the cell to absorb it.

it is like cutting a big watermelon into smaller slices so that it fits into our mouth.

The human digestive system consists of  :

the gastrointestinal tract and the associated glands.

that is the organs that carry food to the stomach and intestine and the organs that help in breaking down the food.

digestion is of two types: mechanical and the other is chemical.

Mechanical is just like chopping vegetables whereas,

the chemical is by using certain chemical substances like enzymes produced by the cells in our body.

The first step is always mechanical that is by chewing, the food is cut by our teeth and rolled with the help of our tongue and smoothened by the saliva.

Then the food is passed by our food pipe called oesophagus to the stomach.

Here actual digestion of proteins will start. The food remains in the stomach for about 6 to 8 hours and here is when chemical digestion starts.

After the proteins are half or partially broken down, they are moved to small intestine here the complete digestion takes place, and the remaining waste will move to large intestine then rectum and then is out of our body.
