IdentityNamaste, I am Joel Guru, a percussionist, performer, and teacher. Currently, I am working in the Music Dept. as a part-time staff member at Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts and pursuing a research final year in PhD at Tamil Nadu J Jayalalitha Music and Fine Arts University in a subject related to Mridangam.
I hail from a family with a musical background and have learnt Mridangam under the tutelage of the veteran AIR A- graded Mridangam Artist Sri. TRS Manikandan and Sri. S T Murthy sir ( legend Mamoondiyah Pillai's family).
I am a certified teacher in Mridangam and other percussion instruments with a first-class in graduation and Post-graduation, MPhil, TTC from Tanjavur University, and a diploma in Sound Engineering.
Apart from being a performer in music and dance concerts, orchestras and bands,
I also run an institute in Trichy where classes for the following are taken -
1. Mridangam (Hobby and Grade Exam)
2. Tabla - Carnatic and Hindustani,
3. Drums
4. Rhythm Pad
5. Keyboard - Western and Carnatic (hobby and Grade exam)
6. Violin - Carnatic (hobby and grade exam)
7. Veena- Carnatic (hobby and grade exam )
8. Hindustani Vocal
9. Guitar - Western.
10. Basic Theory - Music and Percussion.
We train for Carnatic Grade exams conducted by Bridge Academy, Chennai.
I have nearly 15 years of teaching experience with a TTC.
I have served as a music coordinator and performed since 2010 for several albums, and I have worked on the Madha TV Channel.
