Manisha Bora

I have been working as an English teacher for over twenty-three years now. I hold a Master's degree in English and a Bachelor's in Education. I started my career in 1999 as a substitute tutor in a missionary school in Tejpur. In 2000, I was hired as a permanent teacher at the same school. During my time there, I attended several seminars on different ways of handling teaching teenagers and learned classroom management techniques.
I have always loved teaching and interacting with students, as being with students is a rewarding experience that helps me keep learning and increasing my knowledge. Over the years, I have become more empathetic towards students and their needs, which has helped me become a better teacher. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way we taught and learn. With the shift to online teaching, I had to adapt to new technologies and develop new strategies to ensure that my students received the same quality of education as they would in a physical classroom. I teach English literature and grammar to students in grades 8 to 12, both state and CBSE boards. I conduct online classes in both one-on-one and group settings, with thirty to forty students in each class.
My lesson plans usually consist of a warm-up activity and introduction to the topic, followed by an explanation and examples to help students understand the concept. I always make sure to recapitulate and revise the material covered in each class to ensure that students have a clear understanding of the topic. I use a whiteboard and Zoom to facilitate interactive learning during online courses. I also provide notes and assignments to students to help them practice and reinforce what they have learned.
