The pitamaha of carnatic music ,sri purandara dasu, has framed a structure to learn carnatic music. He has made it easy to the learners by creating a step by step learning approach by various lessons which are--

4.Hechu sthayi swaras(Higher notes)

Vocal music is the music using voice(vocal cords in the throat).
In leyman terms, classical music is form of music which is characterised by formality and hormonic organisation.
There is certain rules to follow in classical music to sing or to compose it.
Classical music can be performed by vocal or instrument.

To some extent, you can learn by listening to a piece of music repeatedly and trying to replicate exactly. Recording it, listening to yourself and correcting your mistakes.

Vocal music is where we use our voice(vocal cords in the throat to get the output sound as sapta swaras.
It is basically singing with your voice.
Where as,
In instrumental,
we use the particular instrument to get the sound of sapta swaras.
Example: Veena, a string instrument where we play swaras by stricking the string and simultaneously pressuring the string with the other hand at various places to get different swaras.
