Dear Kajal, studying smartly is one thing and the extra activities which a student must do, apart from studies, is another thing. And, you may believe it or not the later part is as crucial as the former part. The latter part is a bit tougher to follow than the former.
First, I would highlight a few tasks, apart from studies, to be done for the ideal study routine.
Plan: One must prepare a study schedule for the coming week or month. The program must include sufficient time for each subject. One must devote extra time for the subject he/she is the week in.
Workout: You must devote half an hour or maximum one hour each morning and evening shifts to this section if you are a senior school student or aiming to crack a big exam. In this time, one may do yoga, brisk walking or may even play a sport.
Sleep: After a tiring day, your brain needs rest, and it must be given a standard 7 hours of sleep during the preparation of any exam or on a typical day. This time duration may vary from one person to others, but it must at least 6 hours.
Say "NO" to Social Media: Scrolling down Facebook feeds or just giggling on the trending memes on Instagram is a 100% waste of time. One must replace all social media apps with Quora and must use it only for educational purpose.
Make discomfort your new friend: When you are in your comfort zone, you quickly get distracted even to the slightest disturbance. Get out of the comfort zone; don't complain about the noises and build a habit to study in trouble. When you can learn effectively out of your comfort zone, you may do wonders when you are in your comfort zone.
Meditation: It is the most obvious thing, and everyone knows about it, but no one does it! Just see an interview with a successful student who has slightly cracked a big exam. He may not mention in his interview about meditation because it's a common thing, and everyone does it, but that's not the reality. Many students do not practice meditation as they think that those few minutes can be used for studying instead of sitting ideal and focusing on a single thought. Students do not understand that meditation is the only weapon that will bring calmness, which will give a more focused brain. One must meditate daily for at least concerted 15 minutes. A concentrated mind is the only key which one needs to unlock the doors of success. Meditation helps in implementation of hard work.

Music: It is that weapon which may trigger your mind to think out of the box. For some of the students, this may not be fruitful, but for some, it will surely help. Music can also help in meditating. There are many ways to meditate; check them out, and start meditating. The earlier you start, the better results you get.
Self-introspection: This is one of the most necessary steps for a student. After each test's end, you must see your mistakes and make sure that you won't repeat it. It is again one of the most obvious things, but no one does it. Spend enough time with the question paper and imbibe in yourself the correct methods and concepts. Many students spend significantly less time on this small step and overlook many of their silly mistakes.
Reward yourself: Whenever you achieve your planned goal, give yourself some time to enjoy and must take a short break. The break should not be too long such that you get deviated from your upcoming more significant aims. The feeling of success is one of the best feelings in the world; you will realise it by yourself once you unlock its doors. It is also said that "One learns better when he is appreciated for good work rather than when he is scolded for wrong work", which indeed certifies this step to be a mandatory one!

Be motivated: Motivation for doing something big will come from within oneself. Why are only a few selected ones successful? That's because it's their heartiest desire to be in the spotlight, be ahead of others, and be respected by others and that's why they don't blindly move with the crowd. The "will" comes from inside! This "will" for studying will automatically get generated inside you once you feel the feeling of success, and for that, you need to study harder before you can study smarter.
So, these were few essential steps to be taken, apart from studies, for a successful life.
But now, the main thing is to STUDY! Trust me; this will be the easier part if you follow these hacks to study smarter.
Start early: There is no such thing as a last-minute study at least till class 12th. You have to study from the beginning of the session if you're aiming for something bigger. There is no shortcut to success, though there are few hacks which may help you climb the ladder of success.
Dawn study: Best time to study is at 4 am to 6:30 am. In this period, your brain performs at it's best. No offence to those who look till late at night, even I used to study at night but trust me studying at dawn will give you better results. Try to learn in light of the study lamp; it will help in avoiding distractions.

Short goals: The most effective way to study is to set too many short goals to sail your boat to your more prominent destinations. Like, for instance, set up 45 minutes timer and study a topic in-depth with complete focus. After this take a short break of 10 to 15 minutes. Then sit again for 45 minutes and in this shift you have tackled all the questions of the topic you just studied.
Teach others: The best way to check how much you understood is to either take a small test or teach somebody else the same topic and tell him to ask you some cross-question regarding the subject. I feel that the latter method is a better one! Again, go through the topics that seemed more challenging to explain to the other person or in which you could not clear his doubts.
Concept mapping: After reading a chapter thoroughly, try to make cheat sheets for that chapter. These are not to be used in the exam halls! Be precise, make it short and write all basic formulae and facts of that chapter on a single sheet of paper. These cheat sheets will help you revise your chapter in future. Below is one of my short running notes, of varied topics, for the JEE.

Mnemonics: Use mnemonics to remember stuff for long. Like the famous one "My Very Earnest Mother Just Served Us Pickles" helps us remember the planets' names. One can even use a word to remember different names. Like I used "SNAP" to place the order of boiling point of hydrides of 15th group elements. Be creative and make as many mnemonics as you can and feel free to share them in the comment section below!
Flashcards: Paste note cards or flashcards in your notebook or even stick on the walls of the room you are in. Looking at these things now and then will surely help you remember facts for long. Like the below which I have shown is one of the walls of my room.
Voice recorder: If you want to learn the fact-based stuff of Biology, Chemistry or even let it be of Social Studies, you must record your voice reading that sentence or paragraph aloud. Listen to your own recorded voice multiple times daily, and in a few days, those facts will be on your fingertips.
Google: Google out the topic, or can even refer to different books; you are studying to know something more about it and expand your thinking span. It must be done in leisure time. This step will be mostly followed by students who have an earnest desire to learn something new. Also, beware that not everything on Google is accurate.
Revision: This implies "re-vision," i.e. to have a look again on the topics you studied days back. One way of revising stuff is to write also, on a rough page, all the important formulae and facts related to the topic each time you sit to revise. Another way of revising is to revise with the help of questions. This way will be useful for those who are preparing for more challenging exams. Practice a few selected concept clearing quality questions each time you revise.

The above curve clearly shows that the more frequently you revise it, the longer it is retained by the brain.
So, these were a few study hacks that will surely make you land on the royal road to success if practised with full determination, perseverance, and hard work in the right direction. Remember there is no short cut to win, just put your heart, mind and soul into even your smallest acts, which is the only secret of success.
DREAM BIGGER AND NEVER EVER GIVE UP!
ALL THE BEST!
