Compared to regular or informal Carrom rules, whereby players are restricted to hitting only with their index or middle finger to hit the striker in the forward direction, international Carrom rules (according to the rules set by the International Carrom Federation) do not restrict a player from striking from any of the sides of the striker and even using the thumb.
