Practice saying the sentences below out loud to get a feel for how to use “What would?” when asking a question. 

Question 

1. What would you like to eat? 2. What would you do that for? 3. What would people say? 4. What would happen? 5. What would you write to them? 6. What would be your preference? 7. What would she cook? 8. What would you give him? 9. What would be the result? 10. What would they sing? 

Answer 

1. I would like to eat bread and butter. 2. I would do that for my health. 3. People would say that I’m in love. 4. I would become nervous. 5. I would write about my holiday. 6. My preference would be to join the navy. 7. She would cook vegetarian dishes. 8. I would give him something to eat. 9. The result would be encouraging. 10. They would sing the national anthem.
